Long Island Arena

Hockey, basketball, skating, the circus, the Suffolk County Fair and some great rock concerts all took place here. The arena wasn't too pretty, but we were lucky to have it in our town.

The Long Island Arena was always the right name, but to this day it's down as the Commack Arena, in the archived records of some bands and teams.

JFK's appearance at the arena was a very exciting event for Commack. It was a different era and having him in our town was a pretty much non-partisan thrill, even though he was only running for office at the time.

This is an aerial view of the stretch of Veterans highway where the Arena once sat. It's King Kullen Plaza now, with a Borders, Target, Homeplace, a restaurant and just about every other kind of store. The only Hot Tuna you'll find there now is likely to be of the grilled variety. It also emcompasses what was once the Commack Drive-In.
