Owners of the Staples Center have attracted the Great Western Forum's main tenants to their new building and now they hope to acquire the Forum itself. The Los Angeles Times says a deal to buy the Forum for $25 million to $30 million is expected to be complete shortly. The Staples Center is owned by Philip Anschutz, the Fox Group and Edward Roski Jr. The Forum is owned by Jerry Buss, who also owns the NBA Lakers.

The Staples Center opens this fall and will host the Lakers and Clippers, making it the only arena to host two NBA teams simultaneously. The NHL Kings will also play at the Center. The 32-year-old Forum will continue to host concerts, boxing and the WNBA Sparks.

July 12, 2000 (AP) Forum Close to Being Sold
The Forum, where sellout crowds once idolized stars like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Magic Johnson, is on the verge of becoming a real house of worship.

The Faithful Central Bible Church, which has drawn as many as 12,000 people for a single prayer service, is in exclusive negotiations to buy the 17,500-seat arena for $23 million, the Los Angeles Times reported.
