The former home of the Indian Pacers, Market Square Arena, could be put in the path of a wrecking ball if city officials decide to follow two recommendations they have received. Before deciding, Mayor Stephen Goldsmith says he'd like to have public hearings on the issue. The NBA team moves to the new Conseco Fieldhouse this fall.

While the building still has some life in it, it also provides competition for the new $183 million fieldhouse. The arena would also need an investment of up to nearly $35 million to remain active and consultants say even then, the building has only a 15 year life remaining. The reports say the investment is not wise considering the life of the building. City officials say they want to hear from the public, but they also want to make sure voters understand the reasons if the venue is razed.
